Oh dear, it looks like a pattern with LG monitors. Mine is a Flatron L1715S. I got it second hand so not expecting much, but it would hardly ever swtich on the first go. I had to switch the hard-drive off and on again to restart it and then the screen would come one. I recently moved and have not used it in about a month and now it does not switch on at all. I can hear the Windows chime in the background through the hard-rive tower, but the screen is completely black and the light that usually shows the screen is on or not in the bottom menu bar is off? What on earth?
Does anyone have any suggestions other than get a new monitor? I have similar issues with the LG Flatron. I've had it for about a month and a half. No consistent pattern of operation. It sometimes it will operate for hours without going to sleep. Next day it will go to sleep every few minutes.
I have found that I can unplug and plug the power cord back in and that works for most of the times. Sometimes using the keyboard or mouse will wake it up. I can bring it out of sleep mode with touching the menu button on the side of the display and that will bring out of sleep mode; but, as soon as you release the button it goes back to sleep. I've tried analog and digital cables. What's wierd is my 5 year old daughter jumped next to me (up stairs) and the monitor went into sleep mode with her landing on the floor. Just for grins after 'waking' it back up I thumped the monitor with my finger and that put it to sleep. All cables were firmly attached to the monitor.
I've taking my computer into a shop and had it looked at. I thought maybe the video card was messed up. The computer shop didn't find anything wrong with the computer. I'm going to call the LG technician and see what they have to say. Otherwise I'm going back and getting a different brand of monitor. The situation of the OP sounds like a bad monitor. To mb8764, have you tried installing the drivers and software for the LG monitor or are you using the 'plug and play' drivers that windows picks in the new hardware wizard? Try the LG drivers and the software if you havn't already.I had a similar problem.

It started after my old Dell CRT monitor gave out and I got a flat screen LG HD monitor. It would go to sleep, and not come back. No key would bring it back. The Num lock and Caps Lock both worked from key input. The hard drive would run, but the only thing that would bring the monitor back was a reboot.Dell Dimension 4600 P4 2.8ghzNvidia Geforce FX 5200 (Dell Card)LG W2361(analog) MonitorWindows XP Pro. This helped with other things but did not stop the monitor shut downs and reboots.I did not try replacing the system (BIOS) battery. Sometimes that helps in situations like this.I shut off all screen saver power functions to never (turn off monitor, turn off disk drives, and system standby), but it would still shut down after several hours.I finally sat down and researched it and experimented a bit.1) I installed the monitor drivers that came with the LG monitor. I was previously using just the display “plug and play” drivers from Microsoft that it picked automaticly.2) I also installed the ForteManager software that came with the LG.This fixed the problem completely. It wakes up just fine now from all screen saver power modes (screen saver, not really a power saver mode, monitor shut down, disk drive shut down, and stand by system). Works like it is supposed to.Gary.
